Editorial and Affiliate Standards

OneZero Signal exists to make technology easier to understand and easier to buy wisely in Canada. Reporting comes first. Revenue supports the work; it does not get to rewrite the verdict.

Our editorial promise

Every published story must help a reader understand a real change, make a practical decision, or avoid a costly mistake. We prefer primary documents, direct observation, named sources, original testing, and Canadian context. Automated briefs never publish themselves. A person must verify the underlying material, decide what matters, add reporting or analysis, and accept responsibility for the final story.

News and analysis

News stories separate confirmed facts from forecasts, rumours, and opinion. We identify important dates, geography, rollout limits, sample sizes, and material uncertainty. Analysis may draw a conclusion, but it must show the evidence and acknowledge a serious counterpoint. Headlines should be accurate when read alone and should not promise certainty the reporting cannot support.

Reviews and product comparisons

Every review states its reporting basis: hands-on testing, mixed testing and research, or research-based analysis. We do not describe a product as tested when it was not. Where testing is possible, the article explains the conditions, duration, comparison set, important measurements, and limitations. Where testing is not possible, the article is labelled as a guide, comparison, or research-based overview rather than implying first-hand experience.

Product recommendations consider the full Canadian decision: price in Canadian dollars, taxes where practical, availability, warranty, repairability, subscriptions, compatibility, privacy, return terms, and credible alternatives. A good product for one reader may be the wrong product for another, so verdicts must identify who should buy, who should wait, and who should choose something else.

Affiliate links and commercial relationships

OneZero may earn a commission when a reader buys through certain links. Affiliate relationships do not change the price a reader pays and do not guarantee positive coverage, inclusion, ranking, or an award. The disclosure appears in the story itself, close to the recommendation, in plain language. Paid links are marked with sponsored and nofollow attributes for search engines.

If a manufacturer supplies a product, trip, access, discount, or other benefit, the connection is disclosed. Supplied products do not give the provider control over the verdict. Sponsored content is labelled as paid partner content and remains visually distinct from independent reporting. OneZero does not sell undisclosed favourable coverage.

Deals and price claims

A deal is not merely a retailer displaying a crossed-out number. Deal coverage should check recent or ordinary pricing where evidence is available, name the seller, state the currency, record when the price was checked, and explain whether the product is still worth buying. Prices and stock can change quickly, so readers should confirm the final amount and terms at checkout.

AI and automation

Automation may help collect public source material, de-duplicate feeds, organize notes, produce transcripts, or prepare internal working briefs. It does not automatically publish stories, invent hands-on experience, create quotations, or replace source verification. When automation materially shapes a published artifact in a way a reader would reasonably want to understand, the story explains how it was used.

Corrections and updates

Material corrections should be made promptly and noted in the article. Routine changes such as spelling or formatting may be fixed silently. Stories that depend on pricing, availability, policy, product specifications, or active rollouts display a last-checked date when appropriate. Readers can send a correction, source, or tip through the OneZero contact route.

Privacy and newsletters

Newsletter subscriptions use an affirmative opt-in and maintain evidence of consent. Every commercial email identifies the sender, includes current contact information, and provides a working unsubscribe route. Audience growth never justifies buying email lists or disguising advertising as editorial.
